There are five types of messages that businesses can send to customers who opt-in to to receive Messenger communications:
1. Standard messages
Facebook permits you to send one message within 24 hours of a person sending you a message via Messenger or opting-in to receive messages via Maisiebot or one of Maisie's website popups, buttons or plug-ins (e.g. our Abandoned Cart Rescue plug-in). A standard message is allowed to include promotional content.
After the 24-hour window has expired you will not be permitted send any more standard messages to a particular customer unless they have sent you a further message, in which case the 24 hour messaging window restarts.
2. Transactional messages
Facebook allows businesses to send non-promotional messages to customers outside the 24 hour window that applies to standard messages only where those messages relate to matters such as order confirmations, shipping notifications and updates, event reminders, payment & account updates, etc. These messages must be tagged appropriately before sending, which Maisie does automatically.
3. One-time notification messages
Facebook permits businesses to send one follow-up message to each customer after the 24-hour standard messaging window has ended only if the business has requested and received approval from Facebook to do so. We provide instructions below so you can get approval to send these types of messages.
4. News messages
News and other content messages can be sent without limit by approved news organisations. This message type is not available to most businesses.
5. Sponsored messages
These are promotional messages that can be sent to customers at any time. However, these messages are treated as advertising and will incur a cost for every message sent.
As Messenger is tied to your Facebook Business Page you need to be a Page Admin for the Facebook Page you have connected to Maisie to apply for permission to send one-time notification messages.
To get approval simply follow these few steps:
Login to your Facebook account and go to your Facebook Business Page home screen.
Scroll down the left navigation menu to the bottom then click Settings.
Now you'll see your Page Settings screen. Click Advanced messaging in the left menu.
You will now see your Messenger advanced messaging settings screen.
Scroll down the screen until you reach the Requested Features section then click the Request link to the right of One-time notification.
A terms and conditions message will pop up for you to read.
Click the blue Confirm button to submit your request.
Your request should be approved automatically. Back on the main screen you should see a green check mark next to One-time notification meaning your request has been approved and you are good to go!
Maisie will now be able to use your new permission settings to automatically send abandoned cart notifications and back in stock reminders to your Facebook Messenger subscribers.
